God Adores You

Have you ever wondered why God loves you?

I want to take us on a journey that will help us understand why God loves us so much.

1 John 3:1-21 SEE WHAT [an incredible] quality of love the Father has given (shown, bestowed on) us, that we should [be permitted to] be named and called and counted the children of God! And so we are! The reason that the world does not know (recognize, acknowledge) us is that it does not know (recognize, acknowledge) Him.

2 Beloved, we are [even here and] now God’s children; it is not yet disclosed (made clear) what we shall be [hereafter], but we know that when He comes and is manifested, we shall [as God’s children] resemble and be like Him, for we shall see Him just as He [really] is.

Because of the love of God, we are now called the “children of God”. When the Word calls us something it empowers us in what it calls us. If we are called as “sons of God” then it gives us the power of attorney to be and act on behalf and for God as SONS.

In the book of John, we read what happens when we believe in Jesus.

John 1:12-13

12 But to as many as did receive and welcome Him, He gave the authority (power, privilege, right) to become the children of God, that is, to those who believe in (adhere to, trust in, and rely on) His name—

13 Who owe their birth neither to bloods nor to the will of the flesh [that of physical impulse] nor to the will of man [that of a natural father], but to God. [They are born of God!]

Created to Love

God created us to love Him. He desires that we love him completely. Unfortunately, that is easier said than done, especially after that Adam fell.

The first Adam was created just like God, and he was perfect in every way. Adam enjoyed an extraordinary relationship with God, he could love and worship God unhindered until his fall.

When God created Adam, he did not just speak him into existence, in fact he went further and did something special…he created him by his own hands.

Genesis 2:7

7 Then the Lord God formed man from thedust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath or spirit of life, and man became a living being.

Let’s look at a couple of other scriptures as well.

Genesis 1: 26 God said, Let Us [Father, Son, and Holy Spirit] make mankind in Our image, after Our likeness, and let them have complete authority over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the [tame] beasts, and over all of the earth, and over everything that creeps upon the earth.

27 So God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God He created him; male and female He created them.

28 And God blessed them and said to them, Be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it [using all its vast resources in the service of God and man]; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and over every living creature that moves upon the earth.

I want is to look at the word “blessed”. In the English language we just read the word “blessed”, but in the Hebrew it is more than just a word, it is a word filled with action. Here’s what the word means..

h1288. בָּרַךְ ḇâraḵ;

a primitive root; to kneel; by implication to bless God (as an act of adoration), and (vice-versa) man (as a benefit);

kneel (down),

kneel down

bless oneself
Man is God’s divine design of Himself. The divine design is only manifested and made visible when Christ is Lord of our lives. When God created Adam, he created him to reign and rule. God created Adam to have dominion. Adam was different from the other creation, he shared something only God had – DOMINION!

So after creating Adam, God goes about showing him how to be like Himself…how to be like God.

God created Adam in His own image and likeness. Adam must have had some kind of covering that did not allow him to see he was naked until he fell and lost dominion.

Psalms 5:11-12

11 But let all those who take refuge and put their trust in You rejoice; let them ever sing and shout for joy, because You make a covering over them and defend them; let those also who love Your name be joyful in You and be in high spirits.

12 For You, Lord, will bless the [uncompromisingly] righteous [him who is upright and in right standing with You]; as with a shield You will surround him with goodwill (pleasure and favor).

Doesn’t these two verses speak about a covering that the righteous have? Adam was righteous when God created him, he had a covering of sorts upon him. He was royalty!

What Adam lost in the garden was something so precious, that it was only Jesus who could restore it.

Perfect Love
Genesis 3:8-10

8 And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.

9 But the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, Where are you?

10 He said, I heard the sound of You [walking] in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.
Fear is not love, fear is the enemy of love. When Adam sinned, that LOVE RELATIONSHIP between him and God was lost. Where he was not afraid of God in the past, he was now afraid and hid himself.

As from then Adam’s perception of the Father changed. Instead of seeing the Father as loving and kind, which he was, he saw the Father as a strict and demanding person.

Adam lost his covering, and when covering is lost, people begin to blame others.

1 John 4:18

18 There is no fear in love [dread does not exist], but full-grown (complete, perfect) loveturns fear out of doors and expels every trace of terror! For fearbrings with it the thought of punishment, and [so] he who is afraid has not reached the full maturity of love [is not yet grown into love’s complete perfection].

John 3:16-17

16 For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life.

17 For God did not send the Son into the world in order to judge (to reject, to condemn, to pass sentence on) the world, but that the world might find salvation and be made safe and sound through Him.

John 1:12

12 But to as many as did receive and welcome Him, He gave the authority (power, privilege, right) to become the children of God, that is, to those who believe in (adhere to, trust in, and rely on) His name—

1 Peter 1:23

23 You have been regenerated (born again), not from a mortalorigin (seed, sperm), but from one that is immortal by the ever living and lasting Word of God.

Romans 8:19-23

19 For [even the whole] creation (all nature) waits expectantly and longs earnestly for God’s sons to be made known [waits for the revealing, the disclosing of their sonship].

20 For the creation (nature) was subjected tofrailty (to futility, condemned to frustration), not because of some intentional fault on its part, but by the will of Him Who so subjected it—[yet] with the hope

21 That nature (creation) itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and corruption [and gain an entrance] into the glorious freedom of God’s children.

22 We know that the whole creation [of irrational creatures] has been moaning together in the pains of labor until now.

23 And not only the creation, but we ourselves too, who have and enjoy the firstfruits of the [Holy] Spirit [a foretaste of the blissful things to come] groan inwardly as we wait for the redemption of our bodies [from sensuality and the grave, which will reveal] our adoption (our manifestation as God’s sons).

We are born into the kingdom of God through Jesus. The anointing of the Christ is upon the church, the body of Christ. Just like God created Adam to reign, but unfortunately he couldn’t fulfill his calling, in the same way, through Christ we are created to reign and rule.

1 John 4:17-18

17 In this [union and communion with Him] love is brought to completion and attains perfection with us, that we may have confidence for the day of judgment [with assurance and boldness to face Him], because as He is, so are we in this world.

God wants Sons!

Light Life 3 – Light & Glory

There is something special about light that wherever it shines, it brings life.

Light always dispels darkness and brings about change. Look at the dawning of a new day, it brings with it new hopes, new opportunities, and at the same time new challenges. While new challenges might look daunting to those who are not accustomed to living in victory, yet that is a chance and an opportunity to rise up from their situation and let the LIGHT of CHRIST shine upon them and give them victory.

Psalms 27:1-3
“1 THE LORD is my Light and my Salvation—whom shall I fear or dread? The Lord is the Refuge and Stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?
2 When the wicked, even my enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.
3 Though a host encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, [even then] in this will I be confident.”

I love this Psalm, it has always spoken volumes to me, it has always helped me to put my trust in the Lord and never be afraid.

If the Lord is your LIGHT, the there is nothing you need to be afraid of. He is your salvation, your refuge and your stronghold. Remember we spoke about light overpowering darkness and that darkness has never and will never be able to overpower light?

Well, when you are surrounded by enemies, it is like darkness all around you, but in that time of darkness AROUND you, remember the LIGHT is IN YOU.

God’s glory is upon you, that’s why we read in Isaiah…..”arise and shine”.

Isaiah 60:1-2
“1 ARISE [from the depression and prostration in which circumstances have kept you—rise to a new life]! Shine (be radiant with the glory of the Lord), for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you!
2 For behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and dense darkness [all] peoples, but the Lord shall arise upon you [O Jerusalem], and His glory shall be seen on you.”

The darkness you might be facing right now has to go, there is nothing that can stand against the Light. Light is powerful, light is pure, light is life.

Look at what Isaiah says in the first verse….oh yeah, he talks about light, but there is more to that than just light.
He says, “the GLORY of the Lord has risen upon you”.

There is a divine connection between LIGHT and GLORY.

The Hebrew word used for this word glory is “kabod”. The meaning of the word “glory” in this verse is…

h3519. כָּבוֹד ḵâḇôḏ;
splendor or copiousness: — glorious(-ly), glory, honour(-able).
glory, honour, glorious, gloriously, honourable, abundance, riches, splendour, dignity, reputation, reverence

God’s glory has a lot of characteristics, and when that glory is upon us, change is the only thing that can happen.

God’s glory is manifested through the light.

Let’s look at a couple of verses in the New Testament.

John 1:9
” 9 There it was—the true Light [was then] coming into the world [the genuine, perfect, steadfast Light] that illumines every person.”

John 1:14
“14 And the Word (Christ) became flesh (human, incarnate) and tabernacled (fixed His tent of flesh, lived awhile) among us; and we [actually] saw His glory (His honor, His majesty), such glory as an only begotten son receives from his father, full of grace (favor, loving-kindness) and truth.”

The true light is Jesus, and he came to bring LIGHT to every person. This is the LIGHT that brings hope to a dark world. This is the LIGHT we now carry that brings people out of their dark situations into the light.

Look at the next verse…”we actually SAW His glory”. Imagine that! The disciples testified that they saw the GLORY of the Lord.

The Greek word used in this verse for “glory” is DOXA.

g1391. δόξα doxa;
glory, dignity, glory(-ious), honor, praise, worship.
opinion, judgment, view, estimate, whether good or bad concerning someone, in the NT always a good opinion concerning one, resulting in praise, honour, and glory, splendour, brightness of the moon, sun, stars, magnificence, excellence, preeminence, dignity, grace, majesty, a thing belonging to God, the kingly majesty which belongs to him as supreme ruler, majesty in the sense of the absolute perfection of glory.

A couple of words from the meaning of GLORY in the New Testament stands out to me.
Dignity – when God’s glory comes upon you, it restores your dignity.
Opinion – God’s opinion of you is all that matters. Not your circumstance or situation.
Judgment – you are justified in Christ.
Estimate – you are of great value to God.

Glory and light go together, and when we walk in the light, allowing the light to shine through us, we also allow the GLORY of God to manifest through us.

When we speak about light, we should never forget that we are talking about Jesus. He is the light of the world, and it is this light that overcomes darkness.

Looking at the life of Jesus, we see the glory manifested in him.
He is holy
He is pure
He is strong in the spirit
He is love
He is power
He is glory

In fact everything we have discussed these last three weeks reflects Jesus. If we need to model anyone, it should be JESUS. While we can follow the faith of other men of God, we should always make sure we are following Christ.

John 8:12
” 12 Once more Jesus addressed the crowd. He said, I am the Light of the world. He who follows Me will not be walking in the dark, but will have the Light which is Life.”

If we are careful to follow Jesus we will have the Light which is LIFE. Jesus came to give us life, abundant life..John 10:10.

God has called us out of darkness into his marvelous light for a reason. It’s not just that we could just be “happy and clappy” but to be lighthouses of power reflecting the light of Christ to those around us.

1 Peter 2:9-12
“9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a dedicated nation, [God’s] ownpurchased, special people, that you may set forth the wonderful deeds and display the virtues and perfections of Him Who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.
10 Once you were not a people [at all], but now you are God’s people; once you were unpitied, but now you are pitied and have received mercy.
11 Beloved, I implore you as aliens and strangers and exiles [in this world] to abstain from the sensual urges (the evil desires, the passions of the flesh, your lower nature) that wage war against the soul.
12 Conduct yourselves properly (honorably, righteously) among the Gentiles, so that, although they may slander you as evildoers, [yet] they may by witnessing your good deeds [come to] glorify God in the day of inspection [when God shall look upon you wanderers as a pastor or shepherd looks over his flock].”

These few verses sum this up very well. We are called to manifest the LIGHT of CHRIST which is the LIGHT of the WORLD.

Light Life 2 – Purity & Strength

Last week we looked at a couple of things concerning the Light Life of Christ. This week we are going to look at a couple more things about how we can allow the Light of Christ to shine through us, touch our lives and the lives of others around us.

Matthew 5:16
16 Let your light so shine before men that they may see your moral excellence and your praiseworthy, noble, and good deeds and recognize and honor and praise and glorify your Father Who is in heaven.

In this verse Jesus speaks to the people and tells them to shine their light so that people will see the light and GLORIFY the Father in heaven.

Our purpose in this world is to shine the Light of God to those who are in darkness and sin. Not in a way to condemn them but to lead them to the way of life and freedom. In the dark, when we use a flashlight, we don’t focus it on the obstacles in our way, but rather on how we can avoid the obstacles and get out into a place where there is no obstacles, and into the light.

If we want to let the light of Christ shine through us, we need to work on our character and attitude. As a Christian we are called to be disciples, and we must be DISCIPLINED.

Look at what Paul says in the letter to the Corinthians…

2 Corinthians 4:6-7
6 For God Who said, Let light shine out of darkness, has shone in our hearts so as [to beam forth] the Light for the illumination of the knowledge of the majesty and glory of God [as it is manifest in the Person and is revealed] in the face of Jesus Christ (the Messiah).
7 However, we possess this precious treasure [the divine Light of the Gospel] in [frail, human] vessels of earth, that the grandeur and exceeding greatness of the power may be shown to be from God and not from ourselves.

God has shined the light in our hearts….this means we have the light of Christ in us. The reason the light is in us is that we might let the light shine through us manifesting the knowledge and majesty of God to the world.

What use is it if we have the light and do not allow it to shine out on the lives of others to bring them into the kingdom of God.

Let’s take a look at a couple of verses from what Paul writes to Timothy.

1 Timothy 4:7-8
7 But refuse and avoid irreverent legends (profane and impure and godless fictions, mere grandmothers’ tales) and silly myths, and express your disapproval of them. Train yourself toward godliness (piety), [keeping yourself spiritually fit].
8 For physical training is of some value (useful for a little), but godliness (spiritual training) is useful and of value in everything and in every way, for it holds promise for the present life and also for the life which is to come.

If I am to let the Light shine through me then I have to train myself to live in the holiness of God.
Paul exhorts Timothy to refuse and avoid profane and impure godless fictions, to disapprove them and to train yourself in godliness, keeping yourself spiritually fit.

In verse 8, Paul says that godliness/purity holds promise for the present and future life. Wow! That is so wonderful. I can train my body and exercise, but that is ONLY good for this life, but godliness/purity is for this present life and the life which is to come.

As a Christian, we need to understand that we are not just here for the “ride”, we are not just here for this life. We are here for ETERNITY, to reign and rule with Christ. And that takes discipline, godly discipline. We are called to live lives that are pure.

Can we honestly say our though life is pure? Because if our thought life is not pure, then our thought life will begin to affect our words and actions, eventually it will take complete control and lead us to an impure lifestyle, hindering the light from shining out from us.

In the letter to the Philippians, Paul encourages them to have a pure thought life. Look at what he says in this verse:

Philippians 4:8
8 For the rest, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things [fix your minds on them].

The word PURE in the Greek means:

g0053. ἁγνός hagnos; from the same as 40; properly, clean, i.e. (figuratively) innocent, modest, perfect: — chaste, clean, pure.
AV (8) – pure 4, chaste 3, clear 1;
exciting reverence, venerable, sacred pure, pure from carnality, chaste, modest pure from every fault, immaculate clean.

Let’s look at another verse in the Old Testament about purity.

2 Samuel 22:27
27 To the pure You will show Yourself pure, and to the willful You will show Yourself willful

Now, let’s look at the meaning of the word PURE in Hebrew.

H2891 – ṭâhôr – taw-hore’
pure (in a physical, chemical, ceremonial or moral sense): – clean, fair, pure (-ness).

H1305 – bârar – baw-rar’ – A primitive root; to clarify (that is, brighten), examine, select: – make bright, choice, chosen, cleanse (be clean), clearly, polished, (shew self) pure (-ify), purge (out).

This verse has the word PURE twice, and both are not the same. Let me explain something here.

When YOU are PURE – taw-hore – physically clean, pure, then GOD will show himself to you as PURE – bârar – bright, clear, pure.

So I believe, that if we want to let the LIGHT of CHRIST shine in us and through us, we must be pure, clear, clean, and maintain that level of PURITY/GODLINESS.

Purity and strength go hand in hand, they both work together. Light in its purest form is POWERFUL, that’s how lasers are so powerful that they are able to cut through things that nothing else can cut through.
Lasers can cut through cancers and remove them from the body, freeing the person from the bondage of death.

How is that possible? It is just the manifestation of LIGHT overpowering darkness. The LIFE that is in the LIGHT overpowering the DEATH that is in DARKNESS.

Let’s look at a verse in the book of Job.

Job 17:9
9 Yet shall the righteous (those upright and in right standing with God) hold to their ways, and he who has clean hands shall grow stronger and stronger.

The righteous hold to their ways and those with CLEAN HANDS shall grow stronger. Now, when we read CLEAN HANDS it does not mean JUST ‘clean hands’. It refers to a “clean lifestyle”, the way we DO things.

Look at what David had to say about clean hands..

Psalms 24:3-4
3 Who shall go up into the mountain of the Lord? Or who shall stand in His Holy Place?
4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not lifted himself up to falsehood or to what is false, nor sworn deceitfully.

Again, David was not saying that if our hands are clean, we can stand in the Holy Place. No, he was referring to a PURE LIFESTYLE.

When you are PURE, it shows on your character, it makes you stronger. One of the reasons why people fall in sin, is because they are weak, not weak in their bodies, but weak in their character.

Purity and strength go together. If light has to be powerful, it must be PURE.

LIGHT is PURE, and when that LIGHT passes through a gemstone like a diamond or ruby, the LIGHT that comes out of the gemstone is POWERFUL and PURE. But we need to realize that the gemstone also has to be PURE, it has to be CUT in the right places and POLISHED, it has to be – bârar.

It has to move from being ṭâhôr – taw-hore’ to being bârar – baw-rar’.

You have to move from being YOU to being HIM! You have to move from being YOURSELF to being a SON OF GOD.

PURITY goes hand in hand with STRENGTH!
PURITY makes you become just like GOD!

1 Peter 1:16
16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

Where is it written?

Leviticus 11:45
45 For I am the Lord that bringeth you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: ye shall therefore be holy, for I am holy.

God wants us to be HOLY/PURE so that we might be able to SHINE that LIGHT through us and reign with HIM as Kings and Priests.

Look at these few verses…

Exodus 19:6
6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

1 Peter 2:9
9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a dedicated nation, [God’s] own purchased, special people, that you may set forth the wonderful deeds and display the virtues and perfections of Him Who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.

Revelation 5:10
10 And You have made them a kingdom (royal race) and priests to our God, and they shall reign [as kings] over the earth!

Let your LIGHT SHINE before men!
