One morning as I looked into the mirror, I realized that I didn’t want to be me, but I wanted to be like the ONE inside of me – Christ.
We all have desires and ambitions, some of us want to be like someone successful we know, or someone we look up to. The fact is that while we try to be like others, we can fail to let who God intended us to be – Him.
That early morning, as I looked into the mirror, I so much wanted to be like Jesus. I wanted to be just like Him, in everything – word, action and attitude. One of the most difficult things I must admit for me is, having my attitude changed into Jesus’ attitude. You see, I am a person with a strong character, I tend to call “black”, black and “white”, white. I am a man of my word, and when I don’t see the same in others, it kinda “freaks” me out. And this is where I need to see my attitude change and become like Jesus’ attitude.
The key to living a successful life is not trying to be like someone else, but to be just like Jesus. Impossible, you might say, but no, it’s not impossible, but HIM-possible! Fully possible by His grace. In working with our attitude, it comes down to this – that we need to realize that our lives are in Christ, and not in our own abilities.
Paul says in 1 Corinthians 15:45, “Thus it is written, The first man Adam became a living being (an individual personality); the last Adam (Christ) became a life-giving Spirit [restoring the dead to life].” – The last Adam, who is Christ Jesus is a “life-giving” Spirit. He restores the dead to life.
Identity is very important, because how you see yourself is how you will act. The problem is that we have been so tuned to look at ourselves through the eyes of Adam that even though we are in Christ now, our focus is on the fleshly body and not on the spirit.
We have to understand that something supernatural happened when we choose to believe in Jesus – we became ALIVE!
I like how the apostle Paul says it in Romans 8:11, “And if the Spirit of Him Who raised up Jesus from the dead dwells in you, [then] He Who raised up Christ Jesus from the dead will also restore to life your mortal (short-lived, perishable) bodies through His Spirit Who dwells in you.”
The Spirit of Christ is in us to quicken/restore/bring to life our mortal bodies. There is a constant transformation that is taking place in our bodies. This is a fact! The Holy Spirit is actively engaged in transforming us into the likeness of Christ. Because we are associated with Christ as those who believe in him, there is an awesome transformation that takes place in us.
Paul goes on to say in, 1 Corinthians 15:47-49 “The first man [was] from out of earth, made of dust (earthly-minded); the second Man [is] the Lord from out of heaven.
Now those who are made of the dust are like him who was first made of the dust (earthly-minded); and as is [the Man] from heaven, so also [are those] who are of heaven (heavenly-minded).
And just as we have borne the image [of the man] of dust, so shall we and so let us also bear the image [of the Man] of heaven.”
Often times we hear people say, “I’m just human”, well, it’t time we began to say, “I’m human, but I now bear the image of the MAN OF HEAVEN.”
It is important how we perceive ourselves. If you want to walk in the FULLNESS of Christ, you need to see yourself COMPLETE in HIM.
Colossians 3:1-2 “IF THEN you have been raised with Christ [to a new life, thus sharing His resurrection from the dead], aim at and seek the [rich, eternal treasures] that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
And set your minds and keep them set on what is above (the higher things), not on the things that are on the earth.”
As Christians, we have been RAISED with Christ to a NEW LIFE. To see that new life manifest, we have to see ourselves as God sees us – IN CHRIST!
Because we BELIEVE in Jesus – have received, or rather been received by Him, we have become the SONS and DAUGHTERS of God.
John 1:12-13 “But to as many as did receive and welcome Him, He gave the authority (power, privilege, right) to become the children of God, that is, to those who believe in (adhere to, trust in, and rely on) His name—
Who owe their birth neither to bloods nor to the will of the flesh [that of physical impulse] nor to the will of man [that of a natural father], but to God. [They are born of God!]”
As much as we bear the image of the earthly man – Adam, we now bear the image of the MAN OF HEAVEN. Being conscious of this fact, will help us walk in the newness of life that we have in Christ. Our lives are in Christ, so that we can manifest to this world the true image of our Father.
The world needs to see the Father – and the Father seeks to manifest Himself in us, so let us get into Christ!
