And the Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to tend and guard and keep it.
16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, You may freely eat of every tree of the garden;
17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and blessing and calamity you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.
When God created Adam and put him in the garden of Eden, he commanded him NOT to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, of evil and blessing and calamity. But Adam and Eve let their human desires and feelings be controlled by what the serpent said and ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
NOW THE serpent was more subtle and crafty than any living creature of the field which the Lord God had made. And he [Satan] said to the woman, Can it really be that God has said, You shall not eat from every tree of the garden?
2 And the woman said to the serpent, We may eat the fruit from the trees of the garden,
3 Except the fruit from the tree which is in the middle of the garden. God has said, You shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.
God never told Adam that if he touched the tree, he would die. The devil always tries to add something to what God says.
But the serpent said to the woman, You shall not surely die,
5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing the difference between good and evil and blessing and calamity.
And the Lord God said, Behold, the man has become like one of Us [the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit], to know [how to distinguish between] good and evil and blessing and calamity; and now, lest he put forth his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever—
Some of the things satan told Eve was true, but his main plan was to get them to listen to his voice rather than the voice and Word of God. Truth has to be revealed at the right time for it to be effective.
Listening to the voice/word of God will bring LIFE. Listening to the voice of the devil will bring death.
23 Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the Garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken.
24 So [God] drove out the man; and He placed at the east of the Garden of Eden the cherubim and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep and guard the way to the tree of life.
God protected the Tree of Life and put a cherubim with a flaming sword to stop anyone from approaching and taking from the tree of life.
God created Adam to live and not to die, but because of their disobedience to God’s word they lost the privilege of staying alive and experiencing the goodness of God. They took upon themselves the responsibility to do things for themselves, to understand things for themselves. They wanted to know the difference between good and evil and in doing so they moved away from the source of LIFE.
Every time we try to live our lives by our own standards or by the standards of the world we move away from the standards of God.
Ever since that time, man has struggled to live free from sin and wickedness. But right there in that same garden, God promised a savior would be born who would crush the head of the devil.
And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her Offspring; He will bruise and tread your head underfoot, and you will lie in wait and bruise His heel.
But when the proper time had fully come, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born subject to [the regulations of] the Law,
5 To purchase the freedom of (to ransom, to redeem, to atone for) those who were subject to the Law, that we might be adopted and have sonship conferred upon us [and be recognized as God’s sons].
The Father sent His son to be a ransom for our sins, to pay the price for our sins so that we could now LISTEN to His VOICE and be saved.
Jesus became the fountain that could cleanse mankind of their sins once and for all for all eternity.
IN THAT day there shall be a fountain opened for the house of David and for the inhabitants of Jerusalem [to cleanse them from] sin and uncleanness.
God put a cherubim at the tree of life with a flaming sword to stop anyone from coming and taking of the tree to eat and live.
Jesus came and said that he was the bread of life and that if we eat his flesh we would live forever.
Jesus is the good shepherd that gives his life for the sheep. But the shepherd had to die the shepherd had to lead us to the fountain of life, to the tree of life, so he had to be killed.
And one shall say to him, What are these wounds on your breast or between your hands? Then he will answer, Those with which I was wounded [when disciplined] in the house of my [loving] friends.
7 Awake, O sword, against My shepherd and against the man who is My associate, says the Lord of hosts; smite the shepherd and the sheep [of the flock] shall be scattered, and I will turn back My hand and stretch it out again upon the little ones [of the flock].
Then Jesus said to them, You will all be offended and stumble and fall away because of Me this night [distrusting and deserting Me], for it is written, I will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.
WHO IS this Who comes from Edom, with crimson- stained garments from Bozrah [in Edom]? This One Who is glorious in His apparel, striding triumphantly in the greatness of His might? It is I, [the One] Who speaks in righteousness [proclaiming vindication], mighty to save!
2 Why is Your apparel splashed with red, and Your garments like the one who treads in the winepress?
3 I have trodden the winepress alone, and of the peoples there was no one with Me. I trod them in My anger and trampled them in My wrath; and their lifeblood is sprinkled upon My garments, and I stained all My raiment.
4 For the day of vengeance was in My heart, and My year of redemption [the year of My redeemed] has come.
5 And I looked, but there was no one to help; I was amazed and appalled that there was no one to uphold [truth and right]. So My own arm brought Me victory, and My wrath upheld Me.
Jesus shed his blood for us so that we might have forgiveness of sins and that we might have life.
I am the Bread of Life [that gives life—the Living Bread].
This is the Bread that came down from heaven. It is not like the manna which our forefathers ate, and yet died; he who takes this Bread for his food shall live forever.
Pilate said to Him, Then You are a King? Jesus answered, You say it! [You speak correctly!] For I am a King. [Certainly I am a King!] This is why I was born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the Truth. Everyone who is of the Truth [who is a friend of the Truth, who belongs to the Truth] hears and listens to My voice.
If we listen to his VOICE/WORD we will LIVE
